Background on What Makes Us Mad?

The purpose of this blog is to call attention to underlying medical conditions that manifest as psychosis/mania and are commonly diagnosed as Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. The PBS program MINDS on the EDGE assembled a professional panel of experts to discuss problems in the mental health care system. Like many perspectives on mental health, the experts offer no consideration to the underlying medical conditions that manifest as psychiatric disorders. This site is an effort to advocate for improvements in the diagnostic accuracy of psychiatric disorders to include underlying medical conditions and substance induced psychosis in the differential diagnosis of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
